Partnership Update: Akilah Institute for Women

By Brittany Hoffman

The Regent Center for Entrepreneurship is always looking for new areas of synergy and partnership. This summer, we found a kindred spirit in the Akilah Institute for Women. Akilah Institute for Women exists to “empower young women in East Africa to transform their lives by equipping them with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to find meaningful employment and launch ventures in the fastest growing sectors of the economy.”

Twice this summer, the Regent Center for Entrepreneurship partnered with the Akilah Institute for Women to offer two unique experiences for the young women at Akilah. During the Regent University study-abroad trip in May 2012, a small group of students prepared a two-day conference called Inspire. During this conference the girls discussed life purpose, relationship, and restoration. Later in May, RCE employee, Brittany Hoffman, was a guest teacher at Akilah. She taught classes for all the students on Effectively Communicating Your Business Vision… Quickly.

This August, Akilah graduated it’s first class – 39 women, 100% career placement. Congratulations Akilah!
